Queen Elizabeth Cake And Afternoon Tea

An afternoon tea is always a good idea
One thing I love, I love how much time I have been blessed with my Grama Betty I love her so much and our time together is precious! I love knowing her stories and recipes. I love all the special family traditions in my family and one with my Grama is all her grand daughters love to have tea with her and have her special treats with our tea.
So today Im sharing her Queen Elizabeth Cake ( I love old hand written recipe cards)
1 cup of dates boiled in 1 cup of water
Mix 1/4 cup of butter with 1 cup of sugar and 1 egg and vanilla
Then add 1 1/2 cups of flour 1 tsp of baking powder ,1/4 tsp of salt to sugar and butter mix
add 1 tsp of baking soda to date mix once mixed add all your ingredients together I mix all together when its still hot.
bake 350 for 35-45 min
Icing
1/2 cup of coconut, 1/2 cup of walnuts, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 5 tbs of butter and 3 tbs cream bring ingredients to a boil and spread on cake once cooked then cook until icing lightly browned.
