Sunday: soak up the day

A Day for Connection & Gratitude

It’s Sunday—and that means slowing down a little, soaking up the sunshine, and remembering what really matters.

Whether you’re going to church or watching a service from home, take a moment to connect with God in a way that feels natural. Maybe it’s a prayer on the porch, a quiet walk through the yard, or simply sitting with your coffee and breathing in the morning. It doesn’t have to be perfect—it just has to be real.

And later… gather your people.

In our family, my mom and I take turns hosting Sunday dinner. It’s nothing fancy—just food, laughter, and a few dishes in the sink. But I treasure it. It’s our way of saying, “We love and enjoy one another.”

Sunday Dinner Idea:

Let the kids hand-shuck fresh corn—it’s messy and sweet and feels like summer.

Make a big, crisp salad with a simple homemade dressing.

Grill something easy and delicious.

Mix up a light sangria or lemonade, and serve it with ice in pretty glasses.

Eat outside if you can. Add a candle. Let it feel warm and easy.

Sunday Scripture

“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

—Joshua 24:15

Sunday Prayer

Lord,

Thank You for this day to pause and enjoy the people You’ve placed in my life.

Let our home be filled with peace today—with good food, kind words, and little moments that remind us how blessed we are.

Help me stay present. Help me soak it in.

Let love and gratitude linger long after the table is cleared.

Amen.

A Special Prayer for Our Relationships

Father,

You are the author of connection. You created us for relationship—real, loving, life-giving relationship.

Today, I ask You to bless my relationships—within my family, my marriage, my friendships, and even the ones that feel strained.

Soften my heart. Guard my words. Help me choose patience over pride and kindness over distance.

Let this be a season of healing, of joy, and of deeper understanding.

Teach us how to love each other well.

Amen.

If You’re Single or Feeling Lonely Today…

Maybe you don’t have a big Sunday dinner planned—or anyone to plan it with.

But that doesn’t mean today can’t be meaningful. You can start something beautiful—right where you are.

Take yourself out for a coffee or lunch. Invite someone new to church.

Bring flowers to a neighbor or drop off muffins to a friend.

Start your own Sunday tradition—something that feels like love and connection.

As Zig Ziglar said:

“If you go out looking for a friend, you’re going to find they’re very scarce. If you go out to be a friend, you’ll find them everywhere.”

You don’t have to wait for someone else to invite you in. You can be the one who starts it.

Just like my grandparents did so many years ago, when they began our family’s tradition of Sunday dinners—you can create your own.

“Sundays are for good coffee, good music, and being with the people you love.”

—A life well lived, one slow morning at a time
