“My Friday Joie de Vivre: How I Romanticize the Start of the Weekend”

My Friday Joie de Vivre

There’s something sacred (in the stylish, soul-soothing kind of way) about a well-spent Friday. Maybe it stems from those childhood days of dreading the school week and dreaming of freedom. Or maybe it’s simply the way the air shifts—how the light softens, the pace slows, and we can finally exhale. Either way, I’ve made it a habit to mark Fridays with intention and joy. Here’s how I love to welcome the weekend:

1. Fresh Flower Friday

There’s just something about picking up a new bouquet—roses, tulips, even grocery store daisies—that makes the house feel alive again.

2. Get a good bottle of wine

Whether it’s bubbly, a deep red, or a crisp white, opening a lovely bottle marks the shift from weekday to weekend. Sip slowly and savor it.

3. Appie Hour for Two

A little grazing board, olives, soft cheese, grapes, crackers. I make it pretty, light a candle, and it feels like a date—without leaving the house.

4. Friday Night Movie Ritual

Something cozy, romantic, or if im feeling brave an edge of your seat thriller!! Movie night always feels sweeter on a Friday.

5. Make it smell lovely

I light a candle, burn a little incense, or simmer orange peels and cloves on the stove. Just a subtle shift that makes everything feel warmer.

6. Friday Dress-Up

Even at home, I like to freshen up. A spritz of perfume, something soft and feminine, maybe even lipstick. Feeling pretty for myself is part of the fun.

7. Write a Love Note

A little sticky note by the coffee maker, a flirty text, or even just a moment of “I love you” before bed. Keeps the sweetness alive.

8. The Friday Night Playlist

I turn on my 90s favorites—Matchbox Twenty, Goo Goo Dolls, Smashing Pumpkins, The Cranberries—and let them play while I pour the wine and set the table. It’s not a party, it’s just us—and it’s perfect.

9. Friday Five-Minute Gratitude

Before the night ends, I pause and reflect: What felt good this week? What do I want to carry into next week? It helps me notice the little things.

10. Make It Yours

Everyone has their version of “Friday magic.” This is mine—but yours might be sushi takeout, a new book, or dancing in the kitchen. Make it yours. Mix it up. Life’s too short not to make Friday special
