“When you’re…..serving drinks, it’s nice to have something on that’s not ugly”

Sixteen Years Ago, I Made the Globe and Mail

Sixteen years ago, Sugar Baby Aprons was featured in the Globe and Mail Style section.

Reading it today makes me smile.

The article painted me as the thirty-year-old homemaker in high heels who loved vintage television, believed entertaining had become a lost art, and wanted to “put the sexy back into the housewife.”

In other words… they had me pegged. 😂

They also quoted me saying,

“When you’re getting appetizers out of the oven and serving drinks, it’s nice to have something on that’s not ugly.”

Naturally… that became the headline.

The article was interesting because it wasn’t just about aprons. It was about whether women choosing to embrace homemaking, hospitality, and beautiful kitchens was empowering… or somehow taking a step backward.

Some of the people interviewed loved the trend.

Others thought it represented outdated stereotypes.

Meanwhile, I was just over here making pretty aprons because I genuinely loved entertaining, setting a beautiful table, and creating a home where people felt welcome.

Reading it sixteen years later feels a bit like opening a time capsule. Some of it makes me laugh, some of it makes me cringe a little, but one thing surprised me: the heart behind it hasn’t changed.

I still believe home is one of the most important places in the world.

I still love entertaining. I still love setting a beautiful table. I still love making ordinary days feel a little more special.

Back then, I was expressing that through aprons. Today it’s books, recipes, hospitality, and encouraging women to cultivate an extraordinary life.

The message has grown, but the heart behind it is exactly the same.

And yes… I still think it’s nice to have something on that’s not ugly when you’re serving drinks. ❤️
