Hello fellow fall lovers

🍎 This one’s for my fellow fall-lovers… I wanted to share a favorite chapter from my book today.
🌾 A Season of Thanksgiving

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough.” — Anonymous

Fall, to me, is the beginning of my holiday warm-up. I always say in our family that Thanksgiving is where the warmth starts — and I love that as Canadians, we get to celebrate in October. Sometimes we even celebrate again in November. Because really, what a beautiful holiday to celebrate twice. Gratitude, family, food, and connection… why not make it last as long as possible?

That’s why I think Thanksgiving deserves more than a single day. It should be a season — a rhythm of warmth that carries us from the first crisp fall days right into the sparkle of Christmas. Gratitude opens the door, and from there, we step into joy, togetherness, and celebration.

Last year, I even put up a Thanksgiving tree — I had seen someone on Instagram do it and thought it was such a fun idea. I’m not sure I’ll do it again, but I loved how it added a little twinkly glow to our home in the fall. Truthfully, around this time of year, I just want everything to sparkle — candles glowing, lamps dim, cozy throws everywhere. I basically live by candlelight from Thanksgiving until spring, and it makes the season feel so magical.

And here’s the beautiful part: when you live with a thankful heart, hostessing becomes effortless. Gratitude spills out of you and into your home. It changes the way you set the table, stir a pot of soup, light the candles, or welcome people in. The moment becomes less about getting it “just right” and more about savoring connection.

So here’s my invitation: let’s make this our Thanksgiving season. Let’s live with gratitude not only in October or November, but every single day of fall. And then? Let’s carry that spirit right into Christmas and beyond — twinkly lights, fancy tables, and all.

Scripture

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Prayer
Lord, thank You for the beauty of this season and the gift of gratitude. Help me host with love and intention, and to carry thankfulness into every gathering and every ordinary day. May my home reflect Your warmth, sparkle, and welcome. Amen.

Affirmation
Gratitude makes my life radiant, and I bring sparkle and warmth wherever I go.

A Cozy Fall Moment
Plan a little “holiday warm-up” dinner this week — even if it’s just your family or a few close friends. Roast some vegetables, bake a pie, light the candles, and lean into gratitude. And yes, make it fancy if you want — bring out the pretty dishes, set the table with flowers, and try something new like I did with my Thanksgiving tree.

That’s how my candied yams tradition began. I had always been fascinated with U.S. Thanksgiving and noticed candied yams were a staple right alongside green bean casserole. I thought, well, we’ve already got our own casserole — Grandma’s famous one that I share in my Christmas book — but why not try candied yams just for fun?

Well, I had no idea my son would fall in love with them. Now, no holiday turkey dinner is ever complete without candied yams on the table for him. He looks forward to them every single year, and I love making them because it’s become his thing.

Maybe this year you could add something new to your spread — get inspired by other people’s traditions and see what sticks. That’s the beauty of hostessing: creating fresh traditions that feel festive, personal, and deeply meaningful to the people you love.

P.S. The recipe for my candied yams is in the back of this book if you’d like to try them at your table too!
